Friday Flashback:January 1-4

I've been blogging about this weird med school/residency journey for almost three years. Every Friday, I'll bring you insight from years past (you know, in case you missed my oh-so-important recap of med school prom or what have you).

One year ago, Y was a 4th year, nearing the end of months and months of interviews. Read the dramatic tale of his Pennsylvania interview hell.

What medical adventures were you getting into one year ago this week? Two years ago? A decade ago? Share your link or story in the comments!

  1. Wow - it's crazy to think that a decade ago, Husband was interviewing for medical school. What a long decade it's been. A year ago, he was officially accepting a fellowship offer, dragging out our long distance marriage even more. But hey, after four years of long distance marriage, what's a fifth? :)

  2. A year ago was painful. We had just received the awful news that IF we could sell our house we would need to bring money to the closing table. We had to get a house ready to be shown which means all those projects have to be finished and we needed it to look like a family of 6 didn't live there! We also were trying to time the sale of our home to coincide perfectly with the time we needed to be relocated for fellowship. Life is full of hiccups, and nothing goes as planned. That is a year I do not want to live again. Thank heavens this is a new year with a new set of problems and opportunities!

    1. I bet you're glad that's over! And I can't believe the Ikea ice cream cone didn't do the trick - those things are amazing!

  3. A year ago this week, Jeff was moving to Baton Rouge for the first 3 month block of an away rotation (out of 9 months total off and on all in our first year of marriage). I couldn't see an end in sight, and now the dreaded 9 months away are over as of a couple days ago!!!

  4. Somehow I feel like we are in about the same place we were a year ago - starting a rotation at the children's hospital. Time to stop having these ones in the winter months - they always have the earliest wakeup calls, and 4am when it's this dark and cold is just not right... A decade ago we were starting our second semester of college. Weirdness.

    1. I changed my mind about asking where we were a decade ago. It's slightly depressing. I was starting my second semester of college too.

    1. so glad you made it over here! I'm thinking it must be way more fun to go through this in New York (rather than a small town with few opportunities), but I bet you've got a whole different set of issues going on!
